WORM presents: DUTCH PUNCH FILM

For WORM’s Copenhagen debut, WORM and International Film Festival Rotterdam programmer Peter Taylor has drawn together a glittering programme from the collections of WORM’s own small gauge Filmwerkplaats, the Netherlands Media Art Institute and Filmbank.

Encompassing the very best of Dutch artists’ film, the programme includes kaleidoscopic animation, deconstructions of 1990s nightlife, epic voyages from east to west and hand made, hand coloured 16mm masterpieces. Artists featured include Wim Gijzen, Tim Leyendekker, Joost Rekveld, Esther Urlus and Katarina Zdjelar.

Peter Taylor will be present at the screening.

Wim Gijzen – Verwisseling van de namen van de steden Rotterdam en Den Haag NL 1971, 2min video

From an early Dutch pioneer of video and performance art,  this short video asks whether names are decisive for spaces?  Do they define a space, and if so, what happens if you exchange one name for another?

Esther Urlus – Idyll NL 2009, 6 min, 16mm

A film from the co-founder of WORM’s Filmwerkplaats which embodies a bout of imagined nostalgia for childhood. A handmade film that applies an advanced Bas relief darkroom technique, it is incredibly, almost psychedelically coloured.

Joost van Veen – Interlude NL 2005, 3min 16mm

Winner of the 2005  Tiger Award for short film at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Joost van Veen was a founding member of WORM Filmwerkplaats.  Interlude is a quiet, thought provoking and imaginative cinematic work with a shoal of fish and layer upon layer of chemically enhanced, high-contrast black and white film-stock taking lead roles.
